The difference of Acrylic glue and hotmelt glue

In our life,we need use many kinds of adhensive labels in different environment, and the labels have many details, not only in facestock and liner, but also in glue, and glue is a important role in labels. For example, semi glossy paper is a common paper material in adhensive labels. So we can use it for our samples,to test the difference of acrylic glue and hotmelt glue.

We need know the difference which we can distinguish from our eyes.We can choose one label, and fold it in half, and then tear it open. If there are glue strings, it is hotmelt glue. If there are no glue strings, it is acrylic glue. This way is a very quick way to identify them.

And you may want to know,if we don’t know which one is suitable for our products, how to choose?Let me tell you some details about it.

Hotmelt glue’s initial adhesion is very strong, but the durability is very average. And acrylice glue’s initial adhesion is not strong, but it has good durablilty. Moreover, acrylic glue stickers can be reused, but hotmelt glue stickers cannot be torn off once they are affixed.

And let us have a look about the advantage and disadvantage about this two kinds of glues.

Hotmelt glues packaging and freight costs of the unit material are low, it is non-freezing, does not require drying and drying equipment, is easy to adhere to non-permeable surfaces, generates adhesive strength quickly, has good storage stability, the adhesive film is continuous, is water-resistant and does not permeate water vapor. But requires specialized application equipment; limited strength due to viscosity and temperature constraints; may decompose under continuous heating; difficulty in controlling the amount of adhesive applied; may necessitate preheating the material to be bonded; high energy consumption.

Acrylic glues inexpensive, environmentally friendly, generally non-toxic and odorless, non-flammable, wide range of solid content, wide range of viscosity, can be used with high-concentration high-molecular-weight materials, can control permeability and wettability, some water-based adhesives can achieve good water resistance and bonding strength. But long curing time; can be shortened by passing through a heated cylinder; weak water resistance (can be improved by adding a curing agent); poor initial adhesion; not ideal for bonding materials with low polarity; may freeze at low temperatures, causing fabric wrinkling, paper wrinkling or curling; may be contaminated by certain metal objects and corrode certain metals; slow drying process; poor electrical properties.
